FinTech has been investors' industry of choice across Emerging Venture Markets across most geographies for the past three years. However, and in line with a global venture funding slowdown, this year saw a 51% decline in funding compared to the previous year. At the same time, trends in the industry exhibited variations across EVM markets, with MEPT reporting a healthier decline than its peer markets. Against the overall trend, FinTech funding in KSA grew by 181% YoY, capturing 18% of deployed capital across EVMs compared to 3% in 2022.

When looking at the five most funded sub-industries in MEPT, we observe that funding that went towards the Payment Solutions sub-industry was 4 times the amount of funding that the remaining four. The industry also reported year-on-year growth in funding, and these trends were driven, in part, by the MEGA deal rounds of Tamara and Tabby.
